Contact Me

To all my dear readers, who have expressed concern:

No need to worry.  I haven’t disappeared, been kidnapped, or murdered under unusual circumstances.  So many have expressed concern that I haven’t appeared at book signings this month.  Some of you have even tried to turn this into a Mary Magruder Katz Mystery.

Well, here’s the real inside scoop.  On April 6th, I had surgery for a total knee replacement.  I injured my knee dancing a few years ago.  As it became worse, I became the great procrastinator.  At first I denied that anything was wrong with it at all.  Then I acknowledged that there was a problem, but “it could be dealt with later.”

By the time Fatal February was released, I knew that I had to listen to the pain, especially when I could no longer comfortably do my morning two mile walks.

So my husband and I began researching doctors and methods for knee surgery..

I could write a book about everything we learned.  Some doctors cut open everything they can see-muscles, tendons, you name it.  Others make a tiny incision and using special tools (think CIA spy type stuff) place a whole knee in that tiny space.

In visiting orthopedic surgeons, I learned that: “it could be a whole year before I was back to normal,” or “no more gardening or other ‘hobbies’ which involve getting down on your knees,” or “you will need to go to a rehab center for a while before you can go home.”

When we finally met Dr. Martin Roche at the Holy Cross Hospital Orthopedic Center, I knew I had found the right doctor.  He told me I could do anything I wanted to with my new knee, no rehab centers, go home and move, do your physical therapy and you’ll be fine in no time.

So I have a new knee.  Today marks two weeks from surgery.  I am walking without a cane, working out at physical therapy three days a week and exercising at home.  I was able to do all my basic Pilates exercises four days after surgery.  Yes, it hurts, but it hurt before, too, and I have the satisfaction of knowing this pain will leave.  I am almost back on my writing schedule.  After all, nothing is wrong with my fingers.  And I am preparing for a number of book signings in Vermont, New Hampshire, and other areas of New England beginning in June.

So thanks for your concern.  Another mystery solved.  Hope to see you this summer and as always keep in contact at barbara@barbaralevenson.com.
